An 'open door' approach to HSSEQ

Every colleague at V. should promote and provide an 'open door' approach to HSSEQ, ensuring that we discuss, challenge, praise, and promote HSSEQ issues in a transparent, constructive, and proactive manner.

Promoting such an approach not only ensures we are encouraging open discussion about HSSEQ, but it also ensures V. is actively building an inclusive culture that reinforces the need and importance of such transparent engagement and action.

This, in turn, clearly demonstrates to all colleagues that anyone can - and is empowered to - hold open dialogues and discussions around HSSEQ, and that such discussions are positively welcomed at all times.

At V., our door is always open to HSSEQ.

A solid 'Just Culture'

V. actively supports and reinforces a Just Culture, with the intention to create an environment that cultivates support, where concerns or opposition can be discussed, and where genuine mistakes made without fear of reprisal.

V. therefore expects every colleague to actively support the development, within all areas, of a Just Culture in which:

  • Individuals are not punished for actions, omissions or decisions taken by them that are commensurate with their experience and training, which may result in a reportable event
  • At-risk behavior may initiate coaching from a superior
  • Gross negligence, wilful violations and malicious acts are not tolerated

Timely and effective open reporting

Within V. we expect that incidents, near misses, observations, and other unwanted events are reported openly, and in a timely and effective manner, and we do not delay or disrupt such reporting for any reason.

By effectively using programs such as V. Report and our dedicated Safety Observation app, we are able to correctly respond to given situations, mobilise sufficient and correct support resources internally and externally, identify gaps and learning opportunities, and drive continual improvement responses that effectively reduce chances for future recurrence.

It is therefore critical that all V. colleagues reinforce and promote such a timely, effective, and accurate open reporting culture.

'Speak Up' whistleblowing program

V. conducts itself in accordance with the highest standards and complies with relevant laws and regulations, including the “EU Whistleblowing Directive” (Directive (EU) 2019/1937).

As such, we operate the anonymous 'Speak Up' whistleblowing scheme, available to every V. colleague and allowing for the anonymous reporting of known or suspected wrongdoing, misconduct or
malpractice in the workplace.

Examples of Speak Up issues are:

  • criminal offences (including fraud or financial irregularity)
  • breaching a legal obligation
  • putting someone’s health or safety in danger
  • damaging the environment
  • a serious breach of any V.Group policies
  • intentionally concealing information relating to any of these matters
  • breaches of European Law as set out in the EU Whistleblowing Directive
